O is for Opportunities Gained From Blogging

It's the A-Z Challenge and I'm talking about blogging tips. Today I wanted to share a couple of personal experiences about things I've gained from blogging.

3 tips -

 1. Write what you know

 2. Share what you love

 3. Be Yourself

I know I've said the 3rd one 55,000,000,000 times, but it's important. By doing these three simple things here's a few things I've gotten to experience over the last couple years. Top 5 style -

5. A friend of mine who's an SEO specialist took note of my blogging and gave me a job. It didn't last becasue of how SEO has changed, but it was awesome while I had it.

4. I once shared a YouTube video I liked and got free tickets to meet the people who put those YouTube Videos together.



3. People ask me to review their books on my blog, then they give me a free copy. Yes please!

2.  The endless amounts of information I've learned from other bloggers. I would still be wandering around in the dark having no idea how to write or publish if it wasn't for this community.

1. All of the awesome friends/connections I gained. I'm totally planning on name dropping when these guys are beyond huge, and there's quite a few of them who will be.

You have pretty much summed it up for me. I was given a cool software for writers in exchange for an honest review. I loved it and still use it when I edit my stuff.

The feebies are definitely a perk. :D

Friendship and knowledge! Never expected to meet so many awesome people. And it gave me the opportunity to create the IWSG and be a part of the Challenge.

I like being able to open my blog up to interview friends with great work. But mostly the blog has gotten me writing gigs, or helped me test things I'd sell later. And then there's friendship, but that's it's own feature.

I love the connections and relationships-- yes, even though they're online. I love the ability to learn from others. And I have learned so much! And I love the discipline and joy of writing a blog.

I have gained a lot. I started blogging at the end of January and really got serious in March. I have met people, grown an audience. I hope I will also get some opportuniites too to showcase my writing and poetry.

I found a local writer who enjoys writing fiction in that isn't school book related or poetry in J.L. Campbell. We still haven't met face to face but without blogging I wouldn't have found her and we enjoy commenting off each other's blog. She also sent me two of her books to read and I reviewed one so far.

I've gained very good friends. There are a handful of bloggers that I've known for going on 8 years. We support each other. It's just a great way to "meet" people from anywhere in the world.

My writing partner, for example, lives in Florida, and I'm in Missouri.

They could just enter your name into their browser, but it would only reach those you already know. They are aware of you and have you on their radar, which doesn't help you increase the traffic you already have. You could pay for traffic by purchasing an email list (don't you dare! ), sending them a barrage of emails, and hope that some recipients would open and click the links. But that is, you know, illegal and costly. You may buy traffic by putting up a lot of pricey, albeit legal, sponsored advertisements. However, the moment you run out of money, the traffic stops as well.

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun. It's great to stretch my legs and buy myself some beaver nuggets, but it's not going to get me anywhere. The longer I hang out at Buc-ee's, the later I'll show up. Writing is the same.
