Possible Book Title

So I'm keeping today's post short because life is crazy, and I may or may not be out of town for a couple days. I've had this book title swimming around my head for a little while. I mentioned it, in passing, to a writers chat room and got a pretty good response, so I thought I would share it with everyone and see what you think. By the way, if you want to know what my book's about, click the lovely tab above ^ Are you guys sure you're ready for this? I'm really not sure I'm ready. Okay, enough stalling already. Earth Song What do you think? I want to hear honest opinions. I also want to know if anyone has other ideas based on my synopsis? I'm still brainstorming here.

Creak

This is very last minute post, but the writer in me had to take up the challenge. Please enjoy the story below based on this image, That spring could have been the best of my life. Warm and blue, with blossom smells and green lawns. It was a chance for me to take in the great outdoors and learn about the big world that I heard so much about but had never really seen. Museums, parks, antique shops, the new town I now called my home had it all. In a former life these places would have held my interest, but not now. The gate stole all my attention, the old broken buildings behind them calling out their history. Every time I came to it my heart would beat faster and my hands would shake, but I couldn't stay away. I had to know about that place. The secret of it haunted my dreams. The day the wrinkled man stood on its lawn was the day my life would change. I had never seen anyone on the other side of the gate, and I was too curious to let it go. "Excuse me, Sir? Do know about thi...

First steps

The ever so sweet, kind, and Lovely Melanie over at Livin' the Dream is featuring me on her blog for an entire week. A few days ago she asked me some questions so she could highlight me. One of the questions was "What made you want to write a book?" It's funny because on of my very first posts was on that subject, but it made me realize only close friends and family saw it, and they know me pretty well. I read it again this morning and had an overwhelming desire to share with you. So here goes - Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. Every child is asked "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Which really means, how on earth are you going to make a living when you have to pay the bills? My answers as a child were always varied - astronaut, singer, teacher, actress, scientist, chef, artist, archeologist, etc. Even though, to tell you the truth, my heart wasn't really into any of those things. The only thing I knew for certain, was that I wanted to b...

Perseverance

It seems like a lot of my blog posts stem from movies. I really didn't intend it to be that way, sometimes they just speak to me, ya know? Anywho, the other night I watched an HBO miniseries called Temple Grandin. It's about an autistic girl who learns and does some amazing things. I have two autistic cousins, so you can imagine how the story affected me. They have an amazing mother who does so much for them. She inspires me! Back to the movie, after you watch this girl figure out how to deal with her autism, she says something really cool about how her mother pushed her to be better. The things she overcame are nothing compared to my small task of trying to write a book. In fact Temple Grandin has written several books! It just goes to show that it doesn't matter who you are, if you work hard enough and let others inspire and guide you, you can accomplish anything! It just made me realized that I'm not going to stop writing if someone doesn...

Featured blogger!

So last week while I was feeling a little goofy I entered a contest. The contest was an ingenious game called Blogger-Dash. It's a take on balderdash (one of my personal favorites) except you are creating the definition to those crazy verification words. Somehow my silliness won me the contest and now I am the featured blogger over at Livin' the Dream ! If you want to see a crazy picture of me and also find out what the winning word and definition was, head on over there!

Friday's Inspiration

My mind keeps drifting back to a post I wrote last month entitled Music and All it's Wonderful Power . It's about how music is an inspiration for writers. Lately, I have heard several other writers express the same sentiments. Therefore, I have decided that Fridays shall be song inspiration days. I will post a video of the song that is inspiring me most for the week, so you can bask in the inspiration as well. My first choice is Micheal meets Mozart by Jon Schmidt and Steven Sharp Nelson. You know how every once in a great while an instrumental song hits you more powerfully than words. This song has done that for me. I just discovered it two days ago, but I have been listening to it non-stop while writing. It's truly my muse right now. You will seriously love it, give it listen. Didn't that just get your blood pumping? Ah, I love music!

The thing about magic

Hello fellow bloggers! Before I begin, I wanted to let you all know that I am keeping the blog hop open for one more day, so scroll down, check out the peeps, follow them, and give them comment love. I'm sure they will all return the favor! As you can see from the title, today I'm talking about magic. Last night the hubs and I watched "The Sorcerers Apprentice" it was a little cheesy, but it brought a smile to my face. It also got the wheels turning in my head. Think of all the movies, books, artwork, and general media that talk about magic. The book I'm writing even has hints of it. Why do think that is? It seems like there's always the good magic, and the bad magic, and the magic always has it certian restrictions. Yet, we gobble it up every time (at least I do). I have theory about why we like magic so much. Part of it is that we want some. Another part is that we like to think of what could be possible. But I think the real reason we like magic so much is...

Finding my Groove

Yesterday I had no problem writing. I was able to write two thousand words in a little over an hour. It felt good to finally be getting back into the grove of things. It's amazing how your attitude can really affect your writing. One little thing happening during the day can change how you feel when you write. Which, in turn, is translated to the page. I used to think that having the desire to write was enough. It's not. I have the desire everyday to hone my craft, but that doesn't always translate to the page. Although I am still writing every day, I am also getting easily distracted. (If you've been following me on twitter, you know) One of the hardest things to do is to turn off those distractions. I love social networking, always have. But there comes a point when you have to let Facebook go and turn your attention on what matters more. The past few days my writing has gone something like this: The wind gathered around them, flying in circles and lifting her fingers...

Standing on the Ledge

Image
So for mother's day my mom got me this book - (source) I'm only about three chapters in, but completely engrossed. Reading is great way to inspire one to write. I often find when I can't quite get my motor running I turn to books. Only, here's the thing. These books are finished, and finished well. It's hard to sit down and read a book that is smoothly written. It makes me feel like it's not even worth it to continue on writing. Then I read this on the Acknowledgment page "To my first readers ... for their love and support, and for talking me off the ledge at regular intervals." This spoke to me. This seemingly flawless novel was once a first draft. This wildly popular Author had to be talked off the edge! I often need the same kind of support, and you guys are the ones giving it to me. I'm not sure I would be working so hard to finish this Novel if I didn't have the support I'm finding right here. Thanks for being great readers and helpin...

Motherhood, a work of flash fiction.

I know, I know mother's day is over. You've seen every last blog post you can handle on the subject. If you hear the word mom one more time, your going to denounce the celebration for the rest of your life. Well, be prepared to denounce. I wasn't going to do this. I realize how painstakingly late it is, but I just had to share. I wrote this on mother's day as a way to remember one small thing I love about my children. It begged to written, and now it begs to be shared. I'm sure it's full of flaws, but it's time for me to share some of my work with you. So here goes - Motherhood, a work of flash fiction. I am nearly asleep when I hear the blood curdling scream. The first reaction at that ungodly hour is that someone has died. It's the kind of scream that instantly carries me from my dream land to the confused existence of awake. In such a state, it takes a few moments for realization to dawn. No one has died. It's only the baby screaming for at...

More Love!

I hope everyone had a fantastic mother's day weekend! I know I did, thanks to an incredibly awesome husband who cleaned the house and let me have a girls night out. (I know you're all jealous!) To start off another fantastic Monday (I like Mondays, and yes I am aware that I am strange. I'm also a morning person.) I have gotten another award from a totally cool blogger who is probably way more deserving than me! Check out Cherie over at Ready.Write.Go this chicka is hilarious! If you need a pick-me-up I suggest heading on over there. Now for the award: Of course there are also some rules that go along with the honor. They are as follows: 1. Thank and link to the person who nominated me. 2. Share seven random facts about myself. 3. Pass the award along to 5 new-found blogging buddies. 4. Contact the winners to congratulate them. Now I have to think of 7 more random things about myself, so you better be prepared for the randomness. 1. My favorite cereal is Chocolate Marshm...
