K is for Knowing What's Best for Your Blog

I'm going to keep this short and simple today. When it comes to blogging you can get hit with a lot of information at once. Even everything I say won't apply to every person in the same way. So I'm going to repeat my title again.
Know What's Best for Your Blog


Should you blog once a week or everyday? Should you join every blogfest or none at all? Should you talk about writing tips or post short stories? These are questions only you can answer for yourself.

You know what you can handle. You've seen what people like best on your blog. Go with your gut. All you need to  do to make your blog unique is harness your own uniqueness in the way only you can.

Now go out there and listen to that voice that tells you what's right.

Sometimes I think blogging is like writing. Yeah, I can write what people will respond to most, but really it's an outlet for me. When readers like it too, that's just a bonus. :)

Excellent points. I also think writers need to take into consideration what is best for their writing. With a house full of small ones I have to decide where to spend my time. So, I could spend more time blogging, but this would probably eat up most of my writing time.

It's all about the balance.

I'm still figuring out what my blog is for me. An outlet? A way to connect? A place where other writers can learn and laugh? One day I'll get it all figured out, for now, I'm winging it. Signing up for what's interesting. Blogging about what interests me, and trying no to let it sit dormant for too long.

Nothing wrong with keeping some of these posts short! Especially for prolific hoppers.

I think the most important thing is a reliable schedule. If someone decides to blog once a week, then it's got to be every Wednesday, or every Saturday morning, or every Monday and Friday. Habit is the biggest part of what's right for a blog, between both writer and reader.

I blog five days a week. A bit excessive? Perhaps. But somedays I have a lot to say (or perhaps bitch about).

this is perfect for me because right now I'm really trying to figure out what works best with my blogging. It seems like i have less time to do stuff and i feel guilty about not keeping up with my blog, but I have find what works best for me.

Very good points! Some blogs will get more hits with daily posts, while others will only get regular hits 2-3 times a week.

I think it will always be a challenge. I blog and write when I can, ya know?

I think when you're published it's more of challenge to put relevant content for your fans and readers. It adds more fuel to the fire.

I've done a lot of blog examination since the beginning of the year and think I'm finding a comfort and groove with mine more and more. Like Alex, I've backed off the writing advice aspect-- I surely don't have that corner of the market, and not really what I'm going for. Plenty of books for that. Good thoughts, again.

Blogging's a great theme for the A-Z, and you're the first person I've run across who's tackling it.

My one problem with blogging is that it can be too time consuming if I let it be, especially if I do a lot of socializing. However, that's what the A-Z is all about, and so I'm having a lot of fun getting to know other bloggers. I'm your newest follower.

I'd say it took me two years to find my blog voice. This is the first time I'm taking part in a challenge of this kind and I'm using it to explore some concepts of my work-in-progress creative writing guide. -Belinda.

I had a real niche going, but didn't feel like it was true to who I was as a writer, and my blog was getting blogged more often than my writing was getting written. I really had to talk to myself about if I wanted lots of followers or lots of interacters, and I know that what I'm doing may make me lose some followers now, but will *hopefully* get more who want to talk about what I want to talk about. I guess we'll see.

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun. It's great to stretch my legs and buy myself some beaver nuggets, but it's not going to get me anywhere. The longer I hang out at Buc-ee's, the later I'll show up. Writing is the same.
