December Mini-reviews

Last year I made a goal to read a book a week - 52 books in total. It was a long, but enjoyable, road and I'm proud to say that I accomplished that goal, +1. Although  didn't read much in December with Holiday craziness I got a couple of excellent books in.

Goodreads
Seaweed by Elle Strauss. I really love Elle's clockwise serious so I thought I'd love this book too. Let me first say the writing was fun and cute, but I just cannot do mermaid stories. I have a hard suspending my disbelief enough to think that two legs can become a tail. But if you have no problem with that, and you like mermaids, you'll love this book.








Goodreads
The Secret Life of Sparrow Delaney by Suzanne Harper. This was another salvage read from the SLC library (for the story see this post) and another one that I am so glad I saved. Guys, I totally think Ghost Whisper's are fakes, but this book had me believing! Amazing writing, strong characters, and a little (just a simdge) of romance to boot. Cute, fun, read.








Kelley's blog
Fraction of Stone by Kelley Lynn. If you don't know Kelley hop over to her blog and follow right now, becasue she is all kinds of awesome! I actually had the chance to read her first chapter once, and it was amazing to see how to she changed it. I was seriously blown away from page 1. Rydan is my new favorite book crush. Seriously, I rooted for him through the whole book (even when he was an idiot) and totally fell in love. The ending about killed me! I can't wait for the next book. (Do you need another CP Kelley?) I was lucky enough to win the ARC to this, so you can't partake in the awesomeness yet. But it will be out on March 21st and I recommend purchasing it for your immediate inhalation.

You are a zippy reader. I try to avoid setting a numerical book goal-- too much external pressure. But I always have at least one or two books going. Great list.

Fun reads. I have Seaweed but haven't read it yet, but I read the first Clockwise book and enjoyed it. I've got Fraction on my to-read list.

Ah! Jennie! Thank you SO much for the kind review. Seriously, when you posted you had the review up my heart sped so fast I almost passed out. I want the reviews. I want honest reviews, but of course I want people to love it too. So to read that you did makes me SO happy :)

Thanks for sharing these books. I love reading short snippets of new books. I'm not sure where I stand on the whole mermaid story thing...maybe one day I'll try writing something like that if I can find a fresh perspective.

Cassie really will fight you for Rydan. LOL. I love Rydan too and the ending KILLED me. I emailed Kelley and was like, REALLY??? LOL. Can't wait for the next book.

That's great that your library let people save books from the dumpster. I wonder if any of my local libraries have that opportunity.

Sparrow Delaney might be my kind of read, since I love ghost stories.

I've never looked at why I'm not particularly into mermaid books, but I do know there was one floating around blogs that sounded really good, and now I can't remember what it was. Splash was one of my favorite movies as a kid, though, so I do have a bit of fondness for mermaids. Madison was even one of the names I thought about naming my daughter!

These books sound good. You certainly sell Rydan!!

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun. It's great to stretch my legs and buy myself some beaver nuggets, but it's not going to get me anywhere. The longer I hang out at Buc-ee's, the later I'll show up. Writing is the same.
