Hanging on a Cliff Side

It's day two of the Hookers & Hangers blogfest and today it's all about leaving them hanging.


Even though my book, EXISTENCE ends with a cliffhanger, I'm not giving that much away. So here are a few lines from chapter endings that might help you connect the dots with some of my hooks. Bonus points for any guesses in the comments ;)

"The research she had done before the mission told her President Reagan survived, but two of the secret service men weren’t as lucky."

"She wasn’t sure how she was going to get on with life, but she knew she didn’t want to Curve through time anymore. Not with her father gone."

“Well,” Chrissie said, a half smile creeping on her face, “first, we are going to get our bruises cleaned up, then we’re going to Italy.”

"He had her watch, and she was nothing but a prisoner to Matt."

“We should get the others,” Gabe said, shaking his head once more. “It’s time to go to the future.”

So there you have it. Now for another question: out the novels you've read, which one had the best cliffhangers?

That are some great lines. Hangers are good--as long as they're within the book and not at the end. lol Otherwise I'll wait until the series is done and then read it.

I loved the last one for sure. I'd have to keep reading to find out where these characters end up. I also really like #2. You've crammed that with a lot of implication and left me with questions I want answers to. :-)

I like your second and fourth hangers... and I agree with Lisa, Harlan Coben keeps me reading because I just can't put his books down at the end of each chapter!

Great job! I'm trying to write a time travel book right now so I'm definitely curious about yours. I can't think of my favorite cliff hanger in a book ever, but the one line that always stays in my head as being amazing comes from The Last Werewolf: "Reader, I ate him."

Tunnels by Brian Williams and Roderick Gordon had excellent cliffhangers--and all of the other books in their series have just as intense endings.

As for book hangers, I have to say the Twilight book where Bella cut her finger and the vamps went buckwild and then it ended about killed me! Was that New Moon? I can't even remember now. Wait, no, that was Twilight wasn't it? I'm getting old:)

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun. It's great to stretch my legs and buy myself some beaver nuggets, but it's not going to get me anywhere. The longer I hang out at Buc-ee's, the later I'll show up. Writing is the same.
