The Waiting Game


I am not a patient person. It is something I struggle with on a daily basis. Good things come to those who wait, right? So I should just wait until right moment to hit me? I don't think so.

I had this revelation a couple of weeks ago -- I heard a woman speak who ran a very successful auto dealership group/ movie theater / sports team / race car track with her husband. (FYI, loaded!) Anyway, she talked about patience and she said something that will never leave me.

"Patience is not just about waiting. It's about actively moving your life in the direction you want it to go and putting off your immediate desire to reach that goal."

Now, that's not an exact quote because I didn't have a tape recorder, but that's what I wrote down. The point is, the old saying about good things coming to those who wait should be changed to. 'Good things come to those who work hard for their dreams and have the patience to fulfill them.'



Hang in there! (*notes to self*) Keep working at it and eventually all that patience will pay off. It's worth it!

Wow all these quotes are fantastic. I can totally relate to the "putting off your immediate desire to reach that goal" part. It's something that I have to remember that sometimes gets lost in my brain.

I think I want to twin it up with Erin ^ and get butt tats with those quotes. (It's big enough to fit both :)

But I'm not sure if I'll have the patience to do the real thing. The 3 minute temp. tattoo will have to suffice :)

I completely agree - every small step is a step closer.

I'm not even very good at waiting at bus stops, if the bus isn't there I much prefer to walk to the next stop than stand still.

I've always heard the "Good things come to those who wait" statement, however, I couldn't fathom doing nothing, just sitting with palms upturned. The "good thing" is the goal we want to reach. But the goal usually isn't going to gift wrap itself and plop into the waiting palms of someone doing nothing. It's usually grabbed through patience and work. And the patience is harder then because of the work that is necessary to bring the goal to fruition.

I think this distinction is SO important. Waiting won't work for anyone. What good is waiting if you're not putting yourself in the best position so that when the time comes, when you've been patient enough to wait for the right time, you are able to capitalize on it.

I understand you have to go out there and work for a good life but it also happens to people who were fortunate enough to have money/connections.

I have gotten better at working though recently.

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun.
