Holiday Blog Hop

Today at Jenny's Imaginary World there is blog hop going on and a chance to win some amazing books. All you have to do is write a something short and sweet about the holidays. Simple enough? Good.


Here's my entry, which is just a conversation I had in my head (Hey, I'm a writer okay? I'm allowed to be crazy.)


"Christmas is your favorite Holiday?" Someone sayswith a sneer, "don't you hate all the commercialism?"

"Of course I do." I respond

"Then why is it your favorite? Shouldn't you likeThanksgiving or something?"

I give them a gentle smile, "there are so many things tolike about Christmas that have nothingto do with commercialism."

"Like what?" They ask.

"Like the way everyone's hearts seem to open up and weforget about how much we hate eachother for one moment and start to think about those people who have nothing,when we have been given so much."

"Oh." They say. 

There is no response to that becausethey feel it too, but only on Christmas.

This is why I tell everyone Merry Christmas, no matter who they are. Some people don't like it, but it's how I feel, so they're gonna hear it.

So true. I love Christmas for so many reasons, but I love how people are way nicer to each other than usual. I wish we could all keep it up throughout the year though. :)

My son was just asking last night, why Walgreens had Christmas stuff up already. I was like, it's commercialism. We also heard a commercial a few days ago where foster kids were talking about not ever getting anything for Christmas, and my son said, Mom, we have to do something about that.

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun. It's great to stretch my legs and buy myself some beaver nuggets, but it's not going to get me anywhere. The longer I hang out at Buc-ee's, the later I'll show up. Writing is the same.
