Thursday update

I've decided thursday is good day to let you all know what's new and happening around here. Plus I want to give you updates on my book, so I'm held more accountable :)

I have to be honest and say that the editing is not coming along at all right now. I've have been way overloaded, but mostly I need you guys to kick me in the butt and get me going again. (shameless praise of my writing is accepted)

I am joining a writing competition that ends this Sunday (thanks for the heads up Christa!) If you want to join too, find the info here.

Tomorrow I will be hosting Jess Witkins for another addition of the Life List Club, and you can find me at over at Gene Lempp's blog.

Speaking of the Life List club, I just thought I would let you all know that you can be a member by following my blog, (and any other blogs on my life list blog roll on the left side pane) writing your own list, and following us around every other Friday. Oh yeah, and we have a hashtag on twitter #lifelistclub.

One more last minute thing, I decided to join the Poetry-Fest over at Writing with Shelly




I know, I am way late on this one, but better late than never! I've entitled the Poem Brighten.


Sometimes the earth stands still.
I watch it stop and wonder on.
The impossible has brought me here,
a never ending dreamless night.

Will there ever be a time it moves again?

There! On the horizon I see a ray,
a shooting emblem to end doubt.
Rotation has brought me here again,
to a new world, brightened.

I really love the tone this poem sets. It's instantly mysterious, and has a sort of dark edge to it in the beginning. I also like how it ends on the opposite end. Really gets me thinking. :)

@fida I just think it's amazing how light can completely envelope the dark and bring us happiness :)

Yay, I'm glad you joined the blogfest! That is a lovely poem full of vivid imagery. Look at you--you're such a busybody! Where do you find time and energy to do all kinds of stuff, woman? I admire you a lot! ;)

I'm not at the editing stage yet, but my friend Dawn @ The Write Soil is entering the editing zone shortly with her novel. Perhaps you both can encourage each other!

This was a beautiful poem and I'm glad you decided to take part in the blogfest! I adore that last stanza!

I love the poem too! And yay--I'm excited about the LifeList today. :)

I'm actually looking forward to next weekend (week shmeek) because I'll be going to the beach for two days and I haven't been there for 3 years!

To someone who lives and breathes the sea, this is all too strange and disappointing. Anyway, good luck with editing and the writing challenge, Jen!

The Noveling Journey

cr: Diter Laskowski This past weekend I spent 10+ hours in a minivan with four small children. One of those children is only eighteen months old. On top of being squirmy, said child had started antibiotics for an ear infection only the day before. He can also scream very loud. As one must do with such an experience, I tried to find the positive. It was either that or breakdown and sob which wouldn't do anyone good. What I came to realize in the anxiety to and from my destination, was that I had been going about noveling all wrong. And trust me, it wasn't a negative thought. One thing I know about road trips is that if I want to get somewhere, I have to keep going. Stopping at Buc-ee's is really fun. It's great to stretch my legs and buy myself some beaver nuggets, but it's not going to get me anywhere. The longer I hang out at Buc-ee's, the later I'll show up. Writing is the same.
